Look mom, no blades. The future is here. Silent velcro. Space travel. Fanless… fans. And one of them there doohickeys just miraculously showed up on my desk today. Should I dispose of it in a landfill? Should I convince people it’s a space beacon and I’m conducting a wild experiment communicating with aliens?

So, what’s awesome about it? It’s relatively quiet, easy to clean, and I wont chop my hand off reaching through it. What’s not awesome about it? I can’t do the Luke, you’re my father thing. Serious bummer.

The Dyson Air Multiplier™ fan works very differently to conventional fans. It uses Air Multiplier™ technology to draw in air and amplify it 15 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. With no blades or grill, it’s safe, easy to clean and doesn’t cause unpleasant buffeting.

The Dyson Air Multiplier (or space beacon if you decide to call it that) costs $299 for the 10-inch model and $329 for the 12-inch. Smart dude, that Dyson guy is.

While there’s nothing tastier than a meal at Soba Koh, All Day Buffet has come close with The Feast for those starving for change, and looking to make the world a better place. On October 1st at The Times Center, they’re gathering 375 of the world’s greatest innovators from across industries to empower, inspire and engage each other in creating world-shaking change. And to add the icing on the cake, they’ve lined up an amazing group of speakers including musician Kenna (who’s climbing Mt. Kilminajaro with Justin Timberlake and Lupe Fiasco to raise awareness for the worldwide water crisis), professional poker player Annie Duke, William Drenttel from Winterhouse, and the team behind charity: water. If you’re looking to get full on good, get your tickets before they sell out. See you there!

The folks at All Day Buffet just launched an interesting new venture (and experiment) called By/Association. They’re seeking to reinvent the traditional notion of “networking” by enabling substantive interactions and long term relationships to people like you. After you apply and are accepted, you’ll receive one monthly introduction to another remarkable person in your city– all based on complimentary interests, goals, passions, and skills. And naturally with each introduction your own personal network will begin to grow.

The application process asks things like “What’s something you put into the world that didn’t exist before?” and “Describe the most recent time you had fun.” Only 125 words are allowed per answer, so you must be short, sweet, and interesting.

For more information, read their inspiring manifesto and if you think you fit the mold, go ahead and apply. Congrats guys, this is great stuff.

As an attendee and devotee of TED I was admittedly a little skeptical and thought SNAP was going to simply be a miniaturized version. Guess what … it is! But that’s not all bad actually. In fact, it’s a compliment. Mix, in a veritable who’s who of the “Organic Mafia”, a dash of some brilliant creative folks, a collection of academic thought leaders, a pinch of mainstream brand voyeurs who are diving deeper into Green-land, a teaspoon of “new economy investment bankers,” and finally some marketing agency peeps like myself and you have the makings of an interesting collection of people. I found myself inspired by Daniel Pink (always fun), Paul Stamet’s hypothesis that mushrooms could help save the world resulting in the biggest standing ovation of the day, Daniel Pinchbeck’s psychedelic discoveries and enlightened ‘neosphere’ thinking, Vanessa German’s poetic brilliance and more. So far Steve Demos’s vision of putting together a cultural elite gathering is paying off and inspiring some great conversations which went well past closing time last night at the St. Julien Hotel’s buffet. Hopefully today will deliver more of the same.

When most people are asked to name three people they’d love to have dinner with, living or dead, usually go with the some holy trifecta along the lines of Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., and Gandhi. While All Day Buffet might never be able to deliver on that type of panel, they’ve generously compiled quite the lineup of lively innovators for The Feast. On October 16th at NYC’s Scandinavia House, they’ll gather 150 of the world’s most inventive minds to discuss prevalent issues and galvanize a movement for socially conscious change in arenas ranging from business to science. Speakers will include Piers Fawkes of PSFK, Scott Belsky of Behance, and Ecopop’s Chad Rea amongst others. While we have no idea if any meal is actually being served, the conversation is sure to be riveting. So get yourself a ticket pronto before they run out.

Alldaybuffet, Aww Sweet, and Good Wood are throwing a charity auction for the Stoked Mentoring Program. The 50 items up for grabs (which are currently on display at 3rd Ward in Williamsburg, Brooklyn until August 10th) feature deck designs from respected artists in the skate community like Mike Perry and Nathan Fox. Proceeds from the final sale price of each go towards the non-profit organization that coaches at-risk kids in action sports like surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. We’re on board with that. (Groan.)

None of us around here really need an excuse for happy hour, but it’s always a good thing when there’s a cause involved. All Day Buffet’s third Cause For Drinks happens tonight in six cities nationwide — NYC, New Orleans, Minneapolis, Austin, Seattle and Annapolis — each raising funds for select charities. Your city not on the bill for the night? Drop the kids at ADB a note and they’ll get you in the next lineup. More info here or on their Facebook page. Bottoms up.

While Brad Pitt and President Clinton are putting up pink houses (sorry if that sounded sarcastic, it’s sincerely good works), Sean Cummings, co-founder of Startup New Orleans has been setting up shop. In an effort to drive creative-minded people to the economically rebounding city, Cummings has created a site where entrepeneurs can see what a vital center New Orleans can be for their business. From technology (like computer graphics skunkworks Turbo Squid) to ad agencies (like Inc. 5000 firm Trumpet), the project promotes the idea that the new Nola can be to entrepreneurship what Silicon Valley is to tech. Plus, we hear they have this thing called ‘Mardi Gras.’ It’s supposed to be pretty awesome.
