Wow. One of our favorite indie art publishers Rojo (as in Rojo Magazine, yo) just released a hot lil’ set of posters for 200 first-comers. The 10 posters from MWM, Bruno 9li, Neasden Control Centre, Evgeny Kiselev, Catalina Estrada, Dalek, Sergei Sviatchenko, Wagner Pinto, Alexander Egger, Veljko Onjin are all unreleased works. Which means if you hit a financial slump one day, these could save your bank account because they’re surely collectors’ items. The set runs $170 and each measures 59 x 21 inches.

While partnerships between urban artists and urban brands are nothing unusual, a collaboration between Brooklyn-based designer Dalek and Serbia’s Carrot Clothing is exciting news. As Serbia’s first streetwear company, Carrot Clothing aims to infuse the global art, skate and street communities with its own perspective and history. Carrot first began printing T-shirts bearing anti-war messages for family and friends back in 1999 — a move which landed him in jail. These days, things are looking up: the collection is available in more than 20 countries and features. Now following up June’s successful shirt and print collab with Dalek, Carrot has a new Dalek x Carrot skateboard available. Limited edition of 100.

You know why driving isn’t fun? Because your car is spewing out Earth killing gases? Maybe, but also the road signs can be so boring. It’s a problem the Panos 2013 aim to address in the town of Lyon, France. Taking the color scheme, materials and dimensions of real traffic signs, a group of artists have recreated fictional signs to create a gallery without walls and full of directions. They’ve placed 100 signs all around the city, and so far no wrecks. We don’t expect many of our readers will be able to hop over to Lyon (if you do, please let us know), but fortunately images of all 100 images are up on their site. Our favorites are below.

ARTSPROJEKT, a new online “interactive and culturally relevant online community for the arts, pop culture and action sports” has teamed up with print-on-demand company Zazzle to make high-tech, high-art skate decks. Some of the many artists and micro brands involved include: Lil Jon, Shepard Fairey / OBEY, Crooks & Castles, Blood Is The New Black, Angry Woebots, Alex Pardee, and Dalek.

Zazzle’s engineering team collaborated with Andy Howell to develop the decks, which are produced within 24 hours, a first for the industry. The decks can be ordered in a handful of sizes or as a complete board with veteran boarder-approved parts. Need more authentication?

“Skateboard graphics were one of the main things that inspired me to become an artist, so it goes without saying that I want my art to translate beautifully on skateboards,” said Shepard Fairey. “In the past, printing on a curved board surface had detail limitations or smudging could occur at the bends. The ARTSPROJEKT boards utilize new digital technology to create perfectly crisp graphics with impeccable detail.”

And from Alex Pardee: “I actually got to see first-hand this insane technology and the quality of the final printed deck, and I was blown away. It seriously was like looking at a Giclee print ON A SKATE DECK!”

Increasingly, I’m seeing collaborations happening in threes that bring together seemingly disparate entities for great results. Case in point: contemporary artist Dalek, urban lifestyle company Triumvir and hardcore band, Internal Affairs melding minds to create a range of T-shirts, colored vinyl and album art. Limited to 500 pressings each, the albums are available in blue (Internal Affairs version), green (Dalek version), clear (Triumvir version) and black (general release). Limited edition shirts (including a Space Monkey design) are also available. As for how the collab actually came about, Dalek mentions trading toys for records, and Triumvir’s Brandon Cheng attributes his positive working relationship with Internal Affair’s Corey Williams to a mutual appreciation for the word “fuck.”

eBoy is everywhere. If you’re a geek, you saw their poster for MakerFaire. If you like beats, you picked up the latest issue of BPM. And if you collect toys, you have an opinion on their Peecol figures. Now eBoy has teamed up with JoshSpear favorite ROJO for the production of a limited edition monographic book entitled Schmock. The 160-page book contains photos and art in the eBoy style. You can pick up a copy for 30 Euros, or indulge in the bookpack where you get all four “new edicions” (Clayton Brothers, Veljko Onjin, eBoy and Robert Hardgrave) for the price of three. Have a look at the rest of the ROJO shop too. Toy fans may want to pick up copies of the mongraphic books by Dalek, Friends With You and Jon Burgerman. All ROJO editions are limited to 500 copies.

Thanks to the show “Pimp My Ride”, turning an automobile into a blender or an XBox on wheels doesn’t seem so strange. While XZibit and the crew at West Coast Customs may have cornered the market on turning cars into complex appliances, Tim Roberts would like to make his mark by turning your car into a work of art. The founder of Infectious Car Art first experienced the miracle of the moving canvas when his college roommate paid a muralist $1,000 to paint his favorite character on a beat up old hatchback. The problem with that was that the decoration was permanent. Roberts company has remedied this problem by creating easy to install and remove vinyl designs created by some of the dopest designers around. Zeptonn, Dalek, and Jon Burgerman are just some of the names responsible for creating some of the most divine decals available to adhere to your automobile, whether you drive an Audi… or AMC.

If you’re well connected, you would’ve received an invite yesterday to RSVP for a private preview on Friday for Dalek’s only exhibit this year, Overweight, at Washington D.C.’s Irvine Contemporary. It’s gotta be one of the biggest tickets in town (and sorry, we don’t have any to give out, but you can click here for a reasonable alternative). We’re guessing this based on what chaos it was trying to land tickets to the Takashi Murakami — Dalek’s boss in 2001, when he worked as his assistant — show in L.A. last year. The solo show sees the pop artist presenting new paintings that are as meticulous and psychedelic as ever. By occasion, Irvine Contemporary’s releasing a signed print produced in small quantity. The exhibit officially opens on Saturday, May 17, with a party open to everyone, but be nice when swarming your idol there.

It seems like everyone these days finds inspiration in being Eco-Friendly. It’s not just Al Gore anymore. With Television networks, politicians, car companies, amongst others all jumping on the bandwagon, it should come as no surprise that artists are also caught up in what is hopefully a lasting trend.

While art and industry may sometimes make strange bedfellows, ROJO, the Barcelona-based artist consortium, have found themselves a muse in the new smart fortwo, the fuel efficient two-passenger vehicle from smart, a collaboration between Penske and Mercedes Benz. The product of this inspiration is the latest issue of ROJO’s coveted design books entitled ROJO(R)fortwo. The special issue contains artwork from the likes of Catalina Estrada, MWM, Deanne Cheuk, Yoshi Sodeoka, Tofer, Alex Prager, Friends with You, Ben Summers, Dalek, Holly Stevenson, Chet Purtilar, Jemma Hostetler, Meomi, Yoshi Tajima, Evgeny Kiselev, Vanessa da Silva, Bruno 9li, Cristiano Trindade, Todd Tourso, Amir H. Fallah, Justine Ashbee and Sergei Sviatchenko.

If all of that artistic firepower isn’t enough to get you excited, then perhaps the special offer will do the trick. To celebrate the launch of the new smart fortwo in USA; ROJO is offering a 25% discount on the two special printed issues dedicated to smart two special printed issues dedicated to smart. If taking advantage of that offer doesn’t make you feel brainy, we don’t know what will.

With all your monthly expenses, It’s kinda hard to be an avid collector of influential art. Well what if we told you that you could afford a DALEK? You’d probably say, “that’s crazy, his original works were selling for as much as $8K each at his last show.” And while we’re not talking about an original DALEK, we’re talking about a print, the folks at Ring Decoder have gone through a grueling 80 hour process using 26 screens to produce a series of 100 brilliantly vivid prints to ensure you feel almost as special. You’ve got to act fast though, only 80 of the works are available to the public and the cost runs on a sliding scale. “The first 50 orders will be $250. The next 15 will be $275 and the final 15 will be $300. One customer will be eligible for a free doodled test print which can be viewed at the end of the view process feature.” The only other way to get a Dalek might just involve spending your life savings.

For some reason — maybe just because they’re nice — the kids at Vinyl Pulse and Super Rad Toys have decided to team up to give one lucky person a whole basket-full of super-collectible vinyl. Though you’d think you’d have to sell your soul to Satan (or at least post something incriminating on youtube) for a chance at a Plasticgod Gosho, Yellow Dalek Gosho, a Traditional Gosho, a Blank DIY Gosho, and Mister Cartoon Green Lost Angel (yeah, all at once), all you really have to do is leave a comment on their bloggy thing. It doesn’t even have to be a witty comment- you could probably write what today’s date is, and it would still put you in the running. Those toy people… I bet they were too busy staging a Gosho vs. Lost Angel battle to set up a real contest. Well, whatever, this looks like a win/win to me, and you’ve got until Monday to go make that winning comment.

Dustin Hostetler (A.K.A. UPSO) recently participated in the want2Bsquare “Boxheads” show in NYC alongside the likes of Dalek, Sage Vaughn, Maya Hayuk, Matzu MTP, Kelsey Brookes, and Freddi C. For those of you who were able to catch the NYC show, lucky you. For those of you who weren’t able to make it, don’t fret– on April 21st, their taking the boxheads to L.A. for a second leg of the show. The full flyer is after the jump or here if you prefer. These shows were commissioned by Scion to artistically promote their 2008 xB urban utility vehicle– in case you didn’t know, or couldn’t figure it out by the theme of the show, it’s their model with a “boxy design.” From what we’ve seen, Scion is a car company that “gets it,” so it comes as no surprise that it has chosen to get involved with shows like this. And for those interested in the nitty gritty of the NYC show, here’s a link to a guest blog post UPSO wrote on Fecal Face describing his experience.
