It’s that time again, when NZ-based Commune attempt to clothe you in their ltd.ed t-shirts designed specifically to prove to the outside world that yes, you’re a whole lot more awesome than they are — as in, I eat awesome, breathe awesome and bathe in awesome, I’m that frickin’ awesome awesome.

Okay, maybe not, but they do have seven new incredible tees up on their site that are the result of collaborations with RESN Design Studio, Catalina Estrada, Ronald Kurniawan, JS pet fave Adam Cruikshank, Commune’s own Jeremy Bennett, and Spear Collective’s Royal Remarkable. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be running over there pronto to score yours before they’re all gone. Go!

It appears there’s been a mistake. Even though designer and artist Adam Cruickshank has t-shirts up for sale at Commune and 2×4, worked on Sketchel, and participated in the ongoing 22 Flavours project for Lifelounge (his flavour is Banana Split), and despite having done design work for Sneaker Freaker Magazine, he’s never had a post all to himself before. Well we’re fixing that right now. I mean look at those teeth! They make my gums hurt. They’re gnarly as hell.

And that’s what makes Adam’s new site truly worth the visit. It’s not just a gallery of his work for the aforementioned outlets — it also introduces you to areas of his work that you’re most likely not familiar with, like those teeth, or “Feather Mountain” from an art installation he did for a gallery in Australia. He’s a very talented guy, now with a website to prove it.

Rogerio Lionzo is a Brazilian designer who’s been producing some great work alongside Studio Mopa, a young agency whose talented team of artists have already racked up an impressive list of clients. Along with some beautiful font design and jaw-dropping work for NDesign Brazilia 2006, Lionzo’s online portfolio showcases some fun collaborative work he’s done with Unchaste (holy belts!) and Commune. I’m loving the intensity of color that’s so common in Brazilian design these days- it sort of makes me feel like I should be wearing a seaweed bikini drinking apricot nectar on the porch of my house built in the shape of a pineapple. If this print has similar effects on you, I highly suggest checking out both Lionzo’s work and the entire Mopa portfolio– delicious!

The Commune — the design collective started by New Zealander Jeremy Bennett in 2002, has has just released a ‘New Range’ of limited edition t-shirts (as we promised when we covered the Commune a few months ago). The demand for these shirts was robust (to say the least) from the get-go, due to a last minute order from their new German stockist, there is a very limited amount of t-shirts available to purchase at this point. In their words: ‘New Range. Goody Goody. New Range. Hot Damn. Limited Stock. Uh Oh.’ As you all probably know by now, we at JoshSpear.com love to see great design sprout from the ‘collective’ model–the diverse group of designers at The Commune share the exposure, and share the profits. Now their t-shirts are so popular that they may have to ramp up production–not a bad position to be in.

Started in 2002 by Jeremy Bennett, Commune is a designer’s collective built to support emerging, talented, and interesting artists from around the world. They produce a yearly range of unique t-shirt designs by artists in their collective (shown here). Artists like Chuck Anderson, Kasper Fjederholt, Suzie Kelly are involved. In the note I received from Bennett he mentioned the new range for 2006 is on the way soon! Shirts from the past are still all available for sale.
