Attention all guitar heroes: do you spend the entirety of your daily grind day dreaming about those legendary rock ‘n’ roll video game moments you're going to create once you get back from the office? Don't you wish you could take your Xbox with you to work and get a few hours of practice, shredding through hot tunes on your coveted heavy metal axe? Well, day dream no more, because now you can wow your co-workers and fellow members of the working class by kicking out the jams all day sans video game console. The folks at Basic Fun have teamed up with the Guitar Hero's creators at Activision and Red Octane to create a portable version of the game on an itty-bitty guitar with a folding neck and LCD screen, allowing you to bust through tunes from Guitar Hero I and II on the subway or in the conference room. For those about rock, we salute you!

Flipping through the channels last night I got hooked into an episode of CSI New York– which I’ve been known to do from time to time. I was excited and surprised to see the DNA Portrait play an important role in the episode. Not until this morning did I get to my inbox to see a message from the guys at DNA 11 giving us the scoop about the episode, and I thought it was kinda neat that I had seen the show first. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen CSI NY use ‘things we like’ on their show– last fall, they did the same thing with edoc’s coded t-shirts.

Beloved JoshSpear.com readers… you may or may not have noticed that I ‘went dark like Jack Bauer‘ on the blogging front for the last week or so, but I am back and excited to kick off what promises to be an amazing 2007 for JoshSpear.com. I had a great holiday, splitting my time between Sun Valley and Crested Butte, enjoying some great snow in the former and enjoying the company of great friends and family in both. I’m a little perplexed with the Colorado weather patterns this winter (lots of snow in the flatlands, but little in the mountains), but maybe Al Gore can help me understand it. You’ve read our resolutions for 2007, and you can hopefully pick up on Josh’s excitement in his new year’s post. I want to echo Josh’s sentiment, and wish you all an exemplary 2007. We really are dedicated to raising the bar for JoshSpear.com in the coming year, and are honored to have you all as readers. Read after the jump for another excitement-inspiring tidbit…

EdocLast spring we covered edoc laundry–they were then an up and coming indie apparel company based out of Seattle. Well, now they are taking off, and are about to get some major press on a major TV network. They originally impressed us with their creative platform–to embed hidden messages and codes within their garments to reveal secrets once the codes are deciphered. I guess the producers of CSI New York also liked the idea; so much so that edoc t-shirts are going to play a major role in the story line of the October 11 episode of CSI NY entitled, ironically as to edoc, ‘Hung Out to Dry.’ The word is that the episode is about a serial murderer who uses trendy (edoc) t-shirts to hide clues to his identity and motives for his gruesome killings. Edoc specially designed 4 shirts for the show, and they are available as limited edition t’s on edoc’s website. While I am not a huge fan of CSI NY, I may have to check out Wednesday’s episode to see how they work edoc’s shirts into the mix.

Edoc’s gear ‘tells secrets’. Hidden messages and codes are woven into all their clothing and accessories– they hope to break the traditional categories of street/skate/surf and classic fashion with what they call “covert”. This is the first company I’ve seen to unite fashion, technology, music and interactive story telling. When you enter a code on the website found on each piece of clothing it opens a “rabbit hole” with a story about some kind of murder. Go check it out, I was given the code ‘facade’ to check out. Regardless of the storytelling aspect, I found the whole concept and art direction to be pretty great– and some nice looking t-shirts.
