Blackberry Storm: Buy It ($199)
We love the touchscreen functionality of the iPhone, but we’re still not floored by its usability when it comes to email or texting. Blackberry’s newest phone gives us that ability to get tactile with our phone but also features a haptic keyboard that makes sending coherent texts that much easier.

T-Mobile G1: Buy It ($179)
Google’s first phone is geared for those who are pathologically undecided. The phone – which comes in bronze, black, and white and runs on Google’s open-source Android system – features both a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard (a touchscreen keyboard is coming early next year) that slides out. As a result, it’s just a glorified Sidekick that’s still kind of glorious.

Foof Cases: Read JS Review | Buy It ($13)
These cases come in a variety of gorgeous fabrics and protect your phone by holding it snug and wrapping it in satin. We’re totally jealous of our phone. They’re also available for your other portable Mac items.

Speck Cases: Read JS Review | Buy It ($30)
They offer a wide range of designs, but their newest are so preppy they make us want to rename ourselves Muffy and go play some croquet — in a totally non-judgmental way.

Jawbone Bluetooth Accessory: Read JS Review | Buy It ($130)
You may be a Bluetool, but you don’t have to look like one all the time — at least not with the sleek device that’s also incredible at eliminating background noise. Ok, so you still look like a tool, but if it’s between sounding good and looking good…

Incase x Parra iPhone Case: Read JS Review | Buy It ($60)
Stay protected, stay sexy, and grab a colorful — but expensive — hardshell case produced by Dutch artist Parra for reliable manufacturer Incase. Our phone gets to stay safe and we get to enjoy the acid flashbacks.

Hulger Handsets: Read JS Review | Buy It ($40 – $190)
Sometimes we long for those good old days of ginormous handsets. Hulger captures our nostalgia by wirelessly connecting or plugging a nice chunky receiver into our cellphone or our PC to chat via Skype.

Brian Eno x Bloom iPhone App: Read JS Review | Buy It ($4)
Coutesy of Brian Eno, Bloom lets you create sounds and images just by touching your screen. It also features nine mood settings — though we don’t think holiday stress is one of them.

This week’s prize goes to Mia Chuck.

Everyone came up with some great, awful examples of cell phone product placement, but only Mia came up with one that we could have never thought of. In this Korean series, Anycall (TV, movie … we’re not quite sure what it is to be honest episodic commercial), some J-Pop boys and screaming girls get stuck in an elevator — but not to worry, they have a mobile!

Thanks again readers. More prizes next week.

[ED NOTE: So, due to a gracious Mia and a few readers who filled us in on what exactly Anycall is, the only fair thing to do is give the prize to the runner up, Chuck, who reminded us that before Instinct, there was the 90 minute Motorola commercial, Cellular.]

New technology can often be scary. The liberal use of space age polymers and fancy LCD’s can frighten consumers into thinking they may have accidentally slipped into the future with no way back to the world they know and love. One way to remedy that is to camouflage innovation in a classic package. Hulger’s new VoIP PAPPA*PHONE effectively harnesses a new technology, while furnishing it in the eloquent and stylish package of American walnut wood and brass. Each of the phones from Furni, the Montreal based maker, is cut from one piece of wood, while the finer details are laser etched on. This first ever wooden Skype phone is compatible via USB with both Mac and PC incarnations of the Internet phone program, as well as other VoIP programs, allowing you to converse in style no matter what kind of computer you use.

Greetings. Salutations. Time to win some free #$#% again!

If you’ve kept up with the site, you know about Hulger and their desire to see the whole mobile phone carrying world go retro. This week we’re giving you the opportunity to take home any of their chunky, corded handsets that connect to your slim, cellular phone.

The Prize: One Hulger handset of your choice (retail value, from $39 – $190)

This Week’s Rules: We’re feeling a little jaunty this week, so here’s a pop culture themed phone question: What is the worst cell phone product placement in a movie? Everyone has seen a flick that either puts the brand name front and center, uses the phone as a major plot device, or — if you’ve been out recently, as we have — just puts a whole f-ing commercial before the film. Point these out to us, and the one that makes us groan the loudest wins. Winners announced on Friday.

Break out your 3D glasses. Now put them away. Hulger has found a way to give its visitors that sought after extra dimension using only a piece of black cardboard and a really dumb looking way of sitting at your computer. It does work though. The retro-phone purveyor has a couple of three dimensionalized flicks up on their site. So, scurry to your craft nook and grab the necessary tools for a mildly surprising treat.

Hulger — the London-based old skool phone masters (and MOMA exhibitors) who take your basic clunky ’70s handset and connect it to your sleek ‘08 mobile phone — have not stopped retrofitting our lives. Behold! The spankin’ new DJ adapter. Now you can take your P*, PIP*, or Penelope*Phone handsets to the club in lieu of headphones (seriously, you’re only using one ear anyway.) Hello? Yes. It’s for you. Something about a kick-ass DJ set that going to burn this mofo down? Pretty sweet.

Ah, the most beautiful word in the English language – that's right. Sale. And when that sale is being thrown by our favorite phone design masters Hulger, it almost seems wrong to take advantage of it. Almost…

Allowing you to seamlessly blend your high-tech devices with nostalgic retro styling (they've even managed to make those curly cords look cool again), anything by Hulger would be a steal at twice the price. Alas, all good things come to an end. As they gear up to phase out certain models (like the perfectly old skool P* PHONE in green), this is your last chance to order your fave colors. Get on it!

Phone accessories manufacturer Hulger just announced the launch of their new website, and to celebrate the sexy redesign of their now global company, they’re offering their equally sexy white P* Phone (the retro-looking one) and its base at a reduced price. For those unfamiliar with the P* Phone, here’s the run through: By attaching your cell, your Mac or your PC to the phone, via cord or bluetooth, you can chat away on the internets or via mobile just like your parents used to do (like with a real phone attached to your ear and stuff). The promo runs through December 15th, but don’t let that derail you from checking out Hulger’s other products, including special edition and limited edition products. So kitschy, so futuristic, so perfect for your nerdy bachelor uncle’s holiday gift…

Visitors to this year’s London Design Week will be able to make some interesting connections when they find themselves searching for answers. Not only will they find support and information through live-video phone chats with Hulger’s Indian Call Centre operatives in Bangalore, but they might find themselves engaged in some uncommon helpline conversation. Produced in collaboration with Applied Fiction, the “call centre executives,” who have undergone a program of “cultural sensitization,” are trained to recognize regional British dialects and even are up to date on the latest cultural references. What this means is: If you call up one of these super-operatives to ask a question about Design Week, you might as well go ahead and ask about the local weather or your fantasy football stats. This interesting combination of visuals and common ground may just make you feel like there’s a real person on the other line, giving new perspective to the generally helpless characteristics of “helplines.” If anyone happens to experience this first-hand, drop us a line and tell us about it; this sounds like an interesting experiment in communication!

Tango pointed me to this genius new Hulger PIP* phone last week, shown here. It’s fashioned from grained African hardwood Ziricote– apparently some fancy type of Blackwood. It comes in a wooden box which also has a wooden container of wax to treat the natural wood over time. Their slogan for this one is “this phone is designed to wear in, not wear out”, if you splurge for it you can probably be sure the wood will last a lot longer than the technology inside. This one-of-a-kind piece will put you back about $3850, but it’s a perfect blend of “innovation and tradition”– truly a Flinstone meets Jetson statement here, we want one!

Reminiscent of Hulger, uber-geek (and quite smart might we add) Simon Classenhacked up an old-school Ericsson phone with a mobile phone to create a wireless ‘cell-phone’ like device. The guts contain a used Sagem GSM-phone hooked up to the classic phones keypad and ringing bell. Very nice, check out his site for more photos. Via WMMNA

Remember those super-sexy Hulger bases we were drooling over a few weeks ago? Of course you do– the ones for the Penelope and PIP phones we all want for our Skype calls but simply can’t justify buying? They’re finally shipping in 3 colors for the Penelope phone and in black for the PIP phone for around $50-$63.

Word is circulating on the street that Hulger has some fantastic new products in the pipeline. This gorgeous new phone base is one of them– no mention on price or availability yet but they’ll also be launching some improved PIP* and PENELOPE* phones. Also, check out the great looking special artist-series limited edition phones in collaboration with Monorex, a London based collective of artists and designers.

My favorite phone accessories manufacturer Hulger is at it again. Remember those funny Pokia headsets? The Retro Phones of the Future are back again with some serious additions. It’s funny actually, I covered Pokia before they renamed themselves to Hulger, exactly a year ago. They just introduced the Penelope (right) and the PIP (left)– two styles available in wired or bluetooth versions (bluetooth shown), as well as several colors. My Skype Voice Over IP experience just got a whole lot sexier.
