Zach Slow had a dream. That dream was to go on a date with UK Rapper Lady Sovereign. After turning that dream into a reality in June of 2006 and following the passing of his father, Mr. Slow has moved onto another dream. This dream isn’t such an odd one, it’s one most people can identify with. He simply wants to get married. However, it’s the manner in which he’s doing it that may not be so normal.
Armed with a website and a novel idea, Zach and his (gay) friend Tanner recently began a quest for wedded bliss. At 2Husbands, potential wifeys post videos to the site pitching why they’re the perfect match for either Zach or Tanner. However, they can’t double dip. They have to pick between one or the other. Once 500,000 votes have been cast, that’s it. Zach and Tanner will marry the ladies with the most votes. While the idea seems vulnerable to a little American Idol type ballot stuffing, the suitorettes themselves aren’t allowed to vote. It’s up to web surfers everywhere to choose whom the two lucky ladies are at the cost of $2 per vote.
If you’re wondering what incentive these women might have to rush down the aisle, I’d say it’s the prospect of finding true love…or money. On second thought it’s probably the $50,000 that each winning bride gets, but maybe just maybe true love will win out over all. A boy can dream.
This reminds me eerily of the Zach Slow + Lady Sovereign fiasco a little while back, but who am I to get in between three men and their dream. Pool Boys at the Mansion is a recently-surfaced guerrilla campaign by Sam Rush, Denman, and The Swede (gotta love their names) to win jobs as pool boys at the holy grail of pools at the Playboy Mansion. They’re basically looking for people to write them letters of recommendation so that when they go in for an interview in August, they’ll have the support of the masses. They want people to be really creative with their letters, so this could be a fun little writing exercise. I’m willing to do my part to help these lads on their quest to scrub unknown substances off of the walls of the Grotto… are you?
I have to admit, it’s hard to imagine making way for the S.O.V. on a skateboard– seeing the biggest midget in the game doing kick flips and ollies isn’t anything I’ve ever imagined. Humorous image aside (hey, maybe she can rip the park up), I’m digging the Lady Sovereign vs Zoo York collaboration deck. The deck is limited to 340 promo-only pieces, so probably tough to get your hands on one. But hey, if anyone could get one (or raise money to get one), it’s probably Zach Slow.
If you haven’t heard of Lady Sovereign you need to climb out from under your moss covered rock– she’s a seriously talented young individual. We’ve got two pairs of tickets for tomorrow night’s Lady Sovereign show at the Fox Theater here in Boulder, CO. You’ll be rolling in style upstairs to the coveted balcony for the ultimate viewing experience. First 2 people to hit us up with an email containing Lady S.O.V’s real name, your favorite song by her and a tantalizingly-good question you’d like to ask her in our hopeful interview wins a pair each. Let the games begin.
Make way for the S-O-V! We are big fans of Lady Sovereign, and were elated to hear that her new single ‘Love Me or Hate Me’ surpassed Justin Timberlake and T.I. on MTV’s TRL yesterday to take the number one spot. Not bad for a 21 year old, white-girl rapper from the U.K. Some people are dumbfounded by Lady’s TRL supremacy (I like how Pitchfork put it: Carson Daly rolls over in plexiglass grave), but come on–she signed with Jigga and Def Jam–what did you expect? This video is spectacular–we especially like the Tetris-esque effects and beats–partly because we recently acquired a vintage Tetris arcade game here at the office, and Josh and I have been going head-to-head for the past 3 days. Lady is going on tour in a few days and is hitting up some great (small) venues throughout the U.S–so I’d get your tickets now–Lady’s climb to the top of TRL means that this is going to be a difficult ticket to score. Her new album ‘Public Warning’ drops on Halloween, at which point I will dress up like her, go trick-or-treating, and subsequently attempt to impress her with the resulting photos when she comes to play in Boulder at the Fox Theater on November 7th. Josh and I will no doubt be in the balcony for that one. By the way, ‘Public Warning’, Lady SOV’s next album slated for a November release somehow ended up in our hands today, and lets just say you should get excited.
We had to give mad props to Zach Slow for his clever celebrity dating tactics! Spawning from his interest, ok, downright obsession, for Lady Sovereign, Zach has started a website, help me get random with lady sovereign, to help earn himself a date with the lovely MC. The site includes hilarious videos and daily journal entries that document his efforts to score enough loot to treat the Lady to an evening of luxury. Zach has thus far scored tickets to her show and even been in contact with Lady Sovereign herself– so now he’s just watching the clock count down and hoping the money will rack up from our donations towards a date. The site is well done and full of witty commentary, so donate a nickel or more, if you feel generous. Good luck Zack, we hope you get random!
