The first rule of Lomography: take your camera everywhere you go. Common sense dictates you should have your lomographic instrument of choice snugly stowed within arm’s reach in case of a photographic emergency. Lomography.com has solved your toting troubles with their new and improved TPE Sidekick bag. The update of this comely carrying case has increased resistance to both water and wear and tear compared to the original. It’s features two compartments; the smaller is ideal for your snapper, while the larger area is for storing big items like your laptop. If you’ve been haphazardly swinging your camera around or cramming it in your pocket, we recommend picking one of these babies up.  More pics after the jump.

We've talked about the lomography; the ultra low-tech return to photography, but the great thing about lomography is the community of users. People come together and make amazingly creative projects with these little plastic cameras. The Staple Design group has proven to be the pinnacle in the collective with their latest project.
Following the guidelines of Chakra, Staple Design sent out a mission statement of color codes to the lomography community and commissioned a few stand out photographers. After collecting thousands of images, the Reed Space is hosting an exhibition and the launch of the book “Colorsplash Chakra†for the photographs from the project. But it doesn't stop there, they’re also releasing a special Chakra Edition Colorsplash Camera. To kick it all off, there is a party tonight at the Reed Space. If you are in New York send an email RVSP to lomo [at] stapledesign.com — and hurry, space is limited. We would not recommend bringing your fancy digital SLR to document the event, instead try a pinhole camera; it'll get you street cred.

Retro camera overlords Lomo have re-released the cult 1960s Diana camera from Hong Kong, keeping all the glorious hallmark characteristics that, to this day, get amateur and pro photographers alike clamoring for the nostalgic- and romantically-fuzzy photos it produces. Lomo’s Diana+ still maintains the plastic lens, simple two-shutter and three aperture settings plus manual focus of its progenitor. But the new version now allows for a removable lens, a choice between two image formats, an “endless panorama feature” and a special aperture for pinhole pictures. Just like the Holga, this camera encourages happy accidents, and it ain’t a bad-looking camera either, in true-to-original Tiffany blue and black. An eBay check revealed more than a dozen of the old-school ones up in hot bidding war, but if you get the Lomo option, for $75 they’ll throw in 20 rolls of AGFA film with the camera.

The world has moved on from film, right? Digital is the way of the future, instant gratification in an instant world, blah blah blah. Not so much. Love them or hate them, and most people feel strongly one way or the other, Urban Outfitters has teamed up with the Lomographic Society to bring us Who The Hell Are You?, an International Photo Competition.
Between now and the end of August, their Jury will select 30 of the most personal, rebellious, brash, and out-there photos each week. The winners will receive a Lomographic camera and, at the end of the month, the Jury will select a single winner to be flow to London for the Lomography World Congress 2007. Additionally, The winning images (and more) will be posted on Lomography walls at 7 Urban Outfitters stores around the world.
I think this may be the kick that I’ve needed to get off my digital ass and finally pick up a Holga for a whopping $25. Get clickin’!

Lomography is a photography term: it’s the casual, snap-shot method of taking photos used to document daily life. The Lomographic Society International has just released a Lomography Notebook that serves as a great companion to your camera. Even if you aren’t into lomographic photography, but you feel as though your life is scattered, you might want to try one of these– I have to admit, given my current reliance on Mr. Laptop, I don’t know that I would ever use one of these, but I like the idea nonetheless. The Lomography Notebook is compact, contains plenty of white space for making notes, but also has nifty features like the Lomomission– which is a daily theme that gives “push” to your imagination; the Lomolocation– a worldly location that you should probably visit before you kick the bucket; and finally, the Lomotip– an exercise that will help you hone your skills as a lomographic photographer.

Back in the winter of 2003, the good people of Lomography lent a Brooklyn gentleman by the name of Dalek a white color-splash camera to customize as he pleased. So impressed were they by the jazzy black and white number that they have recombined forces to create the Dalek Edition SuperSampler Box Set. For the SuperSampler , Dalek has adorned the limited edition magenta camera with his “precision line work, amazing use of color, and world-famous Space Monkey motifs. The set includes a Custom Supersampler with Dalek graphics with outer box and inner molded case, URBANIZE – a 168 page soft-cover book filled with graphics and images (all of which were shot by Dalek himself or hand-selected submissions by him), and a 144 page Supersampler Lomography book. The culmination of nearly one year of work, the Dalek Edition SuperSampler is great addition to any photography library!

Joshua Gajownik is a print designer experienced in, well, everything! His work includes screen printing, book binding , letter press, and laser cutting, oh, and he also does some design for the web, but I must add not web design. His site, RoyalRemarkable, shows numerous examples of his work, which takes brands like Ecko Red and infuses them with splashes of color and plenty of style. I really liked his LOMONOKIA Academic Project which merges lomographic photography style into Nokia cell phones as well as his Personal Illness Project, a vision of an ailment he created while sick. His hand drawn script faces are really great and each one reflects some of his influence and the idea that helped create it. Truly Remarkable, check this kids work out.
