I’ve heard that “green is the new black” a lot recently–but it looks like for Porsche Design, white is the new black. A technical, clean look for summer seems to be Porsche Design’s story this spring. Their new White Collection will hit stores in May, and is comprised of a pretty diverse smattering of products, all clad in clean white costume. All of the ‘anti-color’ will be accompanied by both shiny and brushed aspects of aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel (pictured here, from left: P’9521 Cell Phone, P’1140 Jacket, P’3140 Shakepen, and P’3635 Lighter). A bold look for the summer season — I must say — the White Collection isn’t all about aesthetics; the PD’s black version of the mobile phone, for instance, has already won a bunch of design awards, employing a fingerprint sensor for user identification, and the Shakepen is activated by a nifty ’shake of the wrist’ mechanism. I’d also like to see what kind of white flame that lighter produces–think they’ve nailed down that white fire technology yet?

With spring upon us — oh glorious spring — many of us will be looking to shift our modes of transport from bus/auto/train to the likes of bicycle/skateboard/Razor Scooter. Since I’ve ruled out Razor Scooter for obvious reasons and have 2 flats on my bike, I think this limited edition deck that Cole Gerst from option-G designed for Affirmed Artes Skateboards will do just fine. These are limited edition decks, signed by Cole himself, and cost $250 (which isn’t too bad for such a astute piece of mobile art). Hang it on the wall, ride it on a flat surface, or ride it on a steep surface — just ride it! They’re available on the option-G site, and with no mention of available stock, you’d best get to it. You should also have a look at Cole’s new designs in the t-shirt department.

It’s gittin’ close to huntin’ season — at least that’s what a lot of rural Coloradans have been telling me lately. And while I’m not a hunter per se, I do enjoy venturing out into the mountains to see deer and elk — and lately, bears — in their natural setting. Unfortunately, lately the bears have been calling my trash cans ‘home.’ Cole Gerst, the mastermind behind ecologically in-tune Option G, has some new screen prints for sale — including the Deer Island Series shown here — that are well-themed for huntin’ season, although I don’t think Cole’s an avid hunter, either. In fact, Cole has become a well-recognized artist, designer, and animator, having been featured in the Vans Sky Gallery, having created animations for Scion, and having won the Sundance Channel’s Greenimation competition with his ‘green' themed animated short, Yung Yeti. Look out for his new 5-part animated series on Sundance modeled after Yung Yeti. We love your stuff, Cole!

Design minds Cole Gerst and crew at Option-G in L.A. are continuing their quest with a new release of 17 mostly enviro-angled t-shirt designs for their Spring/Summer 2007 line. We’ve been impressed with their designs for some time now, and Option-G is continuing to progress. In other news: they recently did two Animations for Scion (1, 2), have continued to design some pretty great music posters, and have been commissioned by Vans to be part of their charitable 2007 Sky Gallery artist series– as part of their involvement, Option G will be collaborating on a billboard in L.A. with 6 other chosen artists, will be designing a pair of custom shoes, and will be featured in a group show in November. Supposedly, a line of wallpaper is also in the works for Option-G– can’t wait for that idea to come to fruition! And as always, I’ve been getting a kick out of Cole’s ‘LALA Land‘ comic strip.

Option G apparel is an extension of an already successful design company with top notch clients throughout the music and media. Cole Gerst’s designs are all hand drawn styles, which he says and I agree stand out against a very computer generated world of t-shirts. They say the lines current inspiration comes from forest animals, hip-hop lyrics, Gerst’s paintings and happy accidents. You can take a sneak peak at the new line not available for sale yet–it includes some really stellar t-shirt designs, as-well as some hoodies and bags. They also have a sneak peak at a really interesting lineup called “Army With Harmony“, a line of t-shirts designed by musicians, rappers, and DJ’s. First in the series are designs by Ben Lee, Grandaddy, and Rooney.
