RIOTTT, the sneaker-obsessed online community that’s been killing it with their cutting edge music/art/street fashion coverage, have recently launched a brand new contest in celebration of the Air Force 1’s 25th anniversary. 1THOLOGY, the Nike-collab page of the site that allows RIOTTT users to show off their sneaker collections, hunt down hard-to-find AF1’s, and otherwise interact with fellow sneakerphiliacs, is now host to a new section dedicated to the Top-25 AF1’s of all time. Each of the shoes have their own profiles and discussion boards, allowing fans and owners to discuss the mythology of the shoe ( i.e.; What do you know about the shoe that other people don’t? What makes it so awesome? Would you want to “retro” it?). This format allows die-hard fans (or quarter-assed ones; whatever) to share the “story” of the shoe- which is often written after their production. The sweet, sweet kicker to all of this is that the creator of the best AF1 story wins the opportunity to design two super-limited Nike-ID AF1’s… which sounds pretty good, eh? It looks like all you have to do to get in on the action is register as a RIOTTT user (if you haven’t already) then drop your brains on the message boards. Easy. Now do it.

The folks behind Riott, which is a network geared toward the urban lifestyle (online music festivals, street fashion, urban sports, etc) are conducting a skate video contest. Aptly named ‘High Five’, they’re encouraging people to submit 2-5 minute clips; starting March 26th, they’ll pick a winner every week for five weeks. They’ll give out cash and sponsor prizes to the winners, as well as award a ‘guest deck’ as the grand prize. With seemingly dozens of new social networks popping up every month, it looks like sites like Riott are getting creative to entice potential members to join– that’s why they’ll hook you with an itunes song credit when you join, and 5 credits when you get 10 of your friends to join. And of course, registration on the site is a condition of entry into the High Five contest. Who knows? Maybe this is the social network for you. Josh– any update on that social network aggregator at the Community 2.0 conference? My bookmarks bar is filling up quickly.

Back in November we were invited to the Be The Riottt Music Festival that took place in San Francisco– unfortunately we weren’t able to make the 30 band, all day event but word on the street was it was off the hook. Luckily the entire show is available for free on their site now– so you can check out sets from folks like The Rapture, Clipse, Saul Williams and more. I love online concerts!

I’d like to shine the light on a new online project called Riottt!. The team at Riottt! is small, but very big on talent and includes creative heavyweights Kevin Craft formerly of Vapors Magazine, Sean Miyashiro, founder of Sole Division, Sky Gellatly from MTV’s Sneak Attack, and Rickey Kim of Evil Monito and The Social Trust. Through a theme encompassing intellectual engagement and a collaborative atmosphere, Riottt! actively seeks to subvert the “mass culture” that has been forced upon the majority of the population. Riottt! is already off to a blazing start and has features on creatives like graffiti legend Haze, Peanut Butter Wolf who founded Stones Throw Records, and photographer Peter Graham. Unfortunately, the interviews are the only area with unfettered access, as the full content of the rest appear to be blocked off to invitation-only members. Keep an eye on this site though, I have a feeling that Riottt! will indeed rise up to lead a new movement.
