The new issue of So-Cal based Happy Magazine features ten pages of artwork by Spear Collective member and our favorite rock star Ryder Robison. If you don’t have a paper copy easily accessible, you can see the issue online; click the “Peep This Issue” link on the website, and it will be on the upper-right side of the page. Ryder has also been doing a lot of updating on his PantherAttack portfolio lately, and I urge you to take a look at the additions he’s made to his photography, illustration, and painting sections. He recently dug some great photos out of his archives– there’s a little bit of everything in there: urban, rural, rustic, cultural, Rock n’ Roll, and straight up eclectic. You’ll just have to see for yourself.

We were excited to hear that Ryder Robison, a favorite artist and rocker of ours, was recently commissioned to hand paint the walls of a Caravan, a new, by-appointment-only boutique in New York’s Upper East Side. The idea of a multi-label boutique (Caravan carries designs by Shoshanna and American Vintage, among others) requiring appointments– made via secret telephone number– is intriguing to me. I’m interested to watch and see if that concept, which is somewhat unique to design houses like Prada and Gucci, catches on. However, it’s clear that Ryder and Samuelle Greene (the artist behind the back lit wood cutouts) did a beautiful job giving the space warmth and personality. Now I’m just crossing my fingers that some of us will get the chance to see their work in person. Anyone out there been to Caravan? Want to tell us about the experience?

Ryder Robison was born in Oslo, Norway, currently lives in New York, and is an artist we dig. He spent the greater part of the last decade as the bass player in the Denver-born, major label band VAUX, but he recently left the group to pursue is own talents, design being one of them. He crated his art-skills (and partying) as a Fine Arts major at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His portfolio, PantherAttack contains compelling illustration, painting, and some fairly dark (although quite interesting) photography. My favorite work of his is the basic watercolor two-color instruments, like the ones shown here.
