If you’re looking specifically for sneakers while in Copenhagen, you probably don’t need to look any further than Wallace (left), and My Sneakers (right). Everything downtown is within walking distance– it’s very charming. The shops were brightly lit, and very well designed (Scandinavian design is so great, can you say IKEA?). All the shops mix in the ususal accesories, but these shops clearly focused on the kicks. The prices were a little bit steep coming from The States, but Adidas really holds a presence here. I guess the closer I get to Germany, the more I’ll see- Berlin here I come!

Wallace is on Hyskenstrade, and My Sneakers nearby on Skindergade.

San Francisco based urbana design has a few really wonderful accessories and I love these veneered plywood vases. Founded in 2001 by Derek Chen, urbana is the result of his curiosity, respect for materials, and “an appreciation for the simple solution”. They’ve also got some beautiful bent plywood trays. The vases are available in three sizes, six wood veneers, and four resin colors so there is plenty to mix and match.

I literally saw a dozen shops of this caliber throughout Copenhagen, but Norse Projects was another one of my favorite shops. They had the usualll; clothing, books, a few of the usual sneakers, some toys and accessories– but what made Norse stand out was it’s gallery and studio downstairs. I was around for Michael Genovese’s “Cabesa De Gato” opening reception. It was some nice work with an American street flare, on show in the basement. One thing I’ve noticed about all the urban shops in Copenhagen– they love Terry Richardson, and Terryworld is for sale everywhere. He’s like some kind of über-celebrity out here. Situated right on the Gradbrodertorv, one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful squares, was an unassuming shop down a short flight of stairs called “il”. They claimed to be a “men’s underwear & accessories” shop, which I suppose was about right– all though it seemed a bit funny after the translation. The front room had some great stuff–wallets, sunglasses, cufflinks, bags, hats, rare watches, and more. In the back, they had a rack of easily 50 types of men’s underwear, from loose fitting boxers, to a few more daring items, all designer–something for everyone.
