What an amazing experience, a picture is worth 1000 words. Tsukiji is the largest fish market in the world handling more than 2000 tons of more than 450 types of seafood. We all woke up today at 4:30AM to check out the legendary Tsukiji fish market. If you don’t have a strong stomach, a sense of adventure, or an insane love for fresh sushi– don’t bother, you can sleep in. We however had all of the above this AM and spent several hours exploring the gigantic marine metropolis. It’s unbelievably intense, a gigantic semi circle with rows and rows of fresh fish and creatures from the sea, many still alive and being gutted to sell to restaurants and wholesalers around the world right there. Serious workers scramble around like madmen going about their morning routines. Highlights include the quite-disgusting buckets of eels, the barrels of live octopus and of course the legendary tuna auctions, where enormous tunas are auctioned off to be cut up into yummy sashimi. More pictures coming very soon!
