As if Digg and the 400 clones like it weren’t enough, Hypediss is the urban, street, edgy version of user driven media. A place where you can submit your favorite stories, hype or diss them. Pop over there to check out Banksy photos, Nokia phone concepts, Chanel watches, Air Jordan V’s and all things way to hip for even this blog. As of this minute, the Banksy archive has been hyped 17 times, and dissed by 0 users. How fun! All jokes aside, this site looks pretty good.

5Oup-2Our U.K. based buddy Tom Judd (who is a very talented designer/animator/illustrator in his own right) has just launched a new version of 5oup, an online collective of art and design students from around the world. While the previous version was impressive in an of itself, the new version — courtesy of 5oup member James Chambers — is a spruced-up redesign of the old. The power behind 5oup lies in its ability to potentially showcase works from all art students in the world. With innovative features like always-accessible portfolio updating and 5oup member communication forums, the sky is the limit for 5oup. Always striving to raise the bar, Tom and his crew hand pick a fresh talent each day, and also showcase a feature artist each week. We at JoshSpear.com love to see projects like 5oup–ventures that achieve power through the ‘collective’ framework.

I wanted to give a special warm welcome to our new, fairly full time contributor, editor-guy, and additional set of eyes and ears behind JoshSpear.com. While I’ll remain at the helm, I’m happy to announce Jamie’s ongoing contribution, his witty humor and excellent worldly finds. By now you’ve read his posts and are beginning to get used to his goofy (sometimes morbid) sense of humor. When I’m not pelting Jamie in the back of the head with a Nerf Dart Gun, he’ll be breathing his passion and taste for art, fashion, gadgets, music and life into the site. He also recently passed the bar when he realized he wanted to do more than just sue people. So now the lawyer turned blogger can both sue people and blog: Which means, if you’re syndicating our site content without permission, I’ve finally got someone in the office to hunt you down. Check out our about page or read more after the jump for the standard ‘autobiography’ of our newest catch. Welcome Jamie!

Giuliani1Ok people. This type of posting is not customary for us, but it was too funny to neglect. Don’t get me wrong: we all appreciate what then-mayor Giuliani did for NYC after 9/11, but that doesn’t mean we can’t poke a little fun at his hilarious verbal ramblings. Reportedly–last night, at a fundraiser for republican NY gubernatorial candidate John Faso, a crazy lady ran onto the stage and began to rant-off a speech about 9/11. Thank god Rudy Giuliani was there to calm the lady down. In response to the episode, Ben Smith from the News’ reported, ‘whatever else you think of Rudy Giuliani, he’s really a master when it comes to the lunatics, who oddly seem to bring out his public empathy like nothing else.’ Damn straight Ben! In honor of Rudy’s ‘public empathy,’ lets take a look at some of his Empathetic Hits from a few years ago–I hadn’t seen these before, but I am sure glad Gawker directed me to them. I’ll start you off with a hilarious one–this was Mayor Giuliani’s response to one of his radio listeners who was upset about NYC’s ban on ferrets (yes, a ferret is a small, rat-looking animal; and yes, the ban created a big hoopla in NYC): ‘there is something deranged about you … this excessive concern with little weasels is a sickness … you should go consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist with this excessive concern, how you are devoting your life to weasels. You need somebody to help you. There are people in this city and in this world that need a lot of help. Something has gone wrong with you.’

I can’t tell you much about Brazilian based graphic designer and illustrator Adhemas Batista, but I love everything I see. He juxtaposes real life figures with fantasy-scribbles, bright colors and pop-culture icons. Jokingly, his portfolio site declares he’s ’selling colors’, with magenta (obviously a favorite of his) for free. He’s done commercial work for Symantec, Palm Treo, Fila USA and a handful of other recognizable names– as well as some gorgeous editorial design for books and magazines. Also, don’t miss his typefaces, gorgeous work. Check him out!

Well Threaded is like Monster.com for those looking for jobs with progressive fashion labels. If you want a career with one of these uber-hip companies, go to Well Threaded, set up an account, post your resume, and browse for jobs. You can get in touch with posting employers, or — if you are something really special — they may get a hold of you. I checked out the job postings this morning, and there were definitely some good ones on there–Director of Planning for Trovata, Regional Sales Manager for Hecklewood, Strategic Business Director for New Era Caps–just to name a few. Well Threaded also has a news feed that will keep you up to date on the happenings in the fashion world. While Well Threaded has a lot of room to grow, I really like the idea of a narrowed-down, niched, fashion-focused version of Monster.com and its progeny.

Lizz Kannenberg! Congratulations Lizz, for being the lucky winner of our ‘Name this Rockstar, Win a Pentax W20‘ contest. Lizz was one of our many readers who correctly guessed Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips to be the pink-boot-wearing, frizzy-haired rockstar with his back to our ACL photographer. Thanks to a combination of mad music knowledge and luck, Lizz will be receiving a party proof Pentax Optio W20 digital camera. Good thing too, because it appears that Lizz likes to be VERY close to the party–at least that is the way it appears from this photo she sent us–Lizz giving the ol’ fist pump to Wayne as he gets in his notorious bubble before The Flaming Lips’ ACL set. We are going to get a lot more of these contest/drawings going at JoshSpear.com, so stay tuned–you never know when we will lace you up with some new gear!
