Before today, I had never even heard of William Spencer. I definitely don’t follow the skate scene like I used to, but after watching his part in the local Denver Shop Video Hollarado, I am a little confused about why this guy is not more well known at this point. It would be futile for me to try to explain his style of skateboarding, so I’ll leave it up to you to watch the video clip. What I can tell you is that Mr. Spencer is certainly athletic, acrobatic, creative, and just plain silly. His style is part old school, part gymnast, and part superhuman. For those of you who skateboard or have in the past, you will surely appreciate how difficult these tricks must be. Wow. Enjoy this one everybody.

MTV sets stuff on fire. Someone special wears something, that something becomes special, people make money… no shock there. Although their pyro superpowers have been known to propel the wrong product into the spotlight, every now and then something really good comes out of the MTV machine. For instance, not too long ago Kanye West wore a certain “Sunglasses” shirt during an appearance on TRL, thereby spurring a quick sell-out via the shirt’s only two (online) distributors. The creator of this shirt was KiserNY, a Brooklyn based designer quickly gaining cred as one of the freshest streetwear providers around. What’s unique about Kiser is his refreshingly different approach to graphic design that’s at times political, at times playful, but always simple and well balanced. I didn’t see a single example of over-done graphics (my current pet peeve) in the entire collection. From what I can tell, this hoodie (my favorite) isn’t available yet, but the rest of the new line, including one-of-a-kinds and limited quantities of the famous “Sunglass” shirt, is available exclusively at KiserNY and Karmaloop.

Yesterday, a friend of mine said something along the lines of, “Boulder is the new Seattle, just with more snow.” I wish she had just been referring to an overstock of fresh seafood at Wholefoods, but what she really meant was “Wow, this weather is depressing.” Don’t get me wrong, I love snow, and the sun IS out today, but somethings gotta happen to get the ‘three OH three’ off of their couches and out of their slippery driveways. Because we’re pretty laid back ourselves, we’ll give you a week to crawl out of your cocoons, but once the clock hits seven next Friday night (2/9) you’d better be on your way to White Hills, where our talented friends over at table2press will be throwing a party. Turns out t2p just passed the 50 poster mark, which is definitely something to celebrate when your posters are that close to perfection. Big Diffy (from MilkBaby) will be throwing down beats, t2p’s delicious print work will be covering the walls, pottery by Dovetail will be up for looksies, and, of course, they’ll be plenty of wine and PBR to get the party started. According to the weather channel we’ll be looking at a high of 41 that day, so no excuses, Boulder– GO!
