The rumors are true: Domo-kun has made it to the US in the form of another new mimobot series. While Josh stuffs his face in a lavender-scented bean bag to try to calm his rapidly palpitating heartbeat, I’ll go ahead and share the wonder of these Japanese monsters, now made even awesome-er by their conversion into nerd-friendly USB Drives. Domo, Ninja Domo, and Rasta Domo are available in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB sizes, and are ready to eat up your top secret files and spit ‘em back at you whenever necessary. If you, like me, have little personal connection to these foreign television mascots, read up here, then be converted.
Additionally, if you haven’t cast your vote for the top three vimobots yet, no worries — voting is open until the 18th (this Sunday), so you still have time to help your favorites reach the head of the pack!

People Like Us, the Australian tee company headed by Spear Collective’s very own Jeremy Somers, just released their Summer 08 line of tees and iPod protectors, and after a little browsing, we’ve decided to use the following word to explain our feelings succinctly: askdlgjaig. Final verdict: the tees are rad, as usual, but it’s the iPod covers (which have expanded in form to protect the full line of iPod products, including iPod Touch) that are getting us tongue tied. Artists like Matei Apostolescu (pictured), Chuck Anderson (who we write frequently about), and Jeremy Somers himself contributed to the new designs, and as far as we can tell, there’s no better way to keep your iPods safely churning out the tunes. Browse the tees and covers here.

When Altavista, Yahoo!, and Google introduced us to the modern search engine, saving us countless hours, we were thankful but not completely satisfied. There has been an increasing number of small apps, or shortcuts, developed that speeds up even the simple task of searching. Dave’s Quick Search Toolbar and Firefox’s built-in keywords are two perfect examples. Recently, Heather turned me on to Boopsie, a free downloadable thin client that sits between your mobile device and dozens of useful sites (or channels). It is compatible with Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Blackberry, the iPhone, and Symbian so as long as your phone is a little more advanced than a flip phone, you should be able to use it. I used my Samsung Blackjack to download and install client direct from the website and within minutes I was up and running. Once you have it loaded, it makes a data connection and from there you can choose any number of channels and search quicker than ever. I like using it in the mornings to check forecasts on Weather Underground; all I have to do is enter in my zip code and a mobile version of the site loads and I get to skip all the needless graphics and text of the front page. Though I have 3G on my phone, my area does not support it yet so anything that can help me be more productive on the run is a plus and Boopsie does exactly that.

Well, that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? Though I wasn’t familiar with him, apparently Maximilian Busser is a complete badass in the world of watches — which becomes readily apparent as you look at some of the images of his newest piece, the Horological (based on horology, or the study of time) Machine No. 2. Each year, Busser puts together a team of the best artisans, engineers, and craftsmen — friends — that he can find and has them build a watch. Hence MB&F, or Maximilian Busser and Friends.
This year’s piece is the Horological Machine No. 2, and it’s downright incredible. It’s also so new that details won’t even be released on their website for another few days. Luckily, our friends over at The Watchismo Times got a sneak peek at the gorgeousness that is the HM2. The HM2 is nothing of wrist-wearable architectural beauty - made even more impressive once you consider it’s size. Of course, it appears that it’s only available in a limited run of 125 watches, so start banging on the doors if you reaaaaaally want one.
