As the saying goes, “into every life, a little rain must fall.” What the saying doesn’t go on to tell you though is how often and that if you’re not wearing the right shoes for the occasion, your socks get wet and you have to trudge around with damp digits all day. Sure, you could put on those big, embarrassing rubber galoshes, but they kind of cramp your style and wearing them means you’re not able to show off your sweet new kicks.
Newsflash: dampness is known to decrease the sweetness of said kicks so you better cover them up, but have no fear, SWIMS are here. The winner of the Norwegian Design Excellence award, SWIMS reintroduces the rubber overshoe in style by adding the “element of timeless design, playfulness and improved functionality,” all the while allowing you to keep your non-trainers clean, dry and on your feet. Raindrops may keep falling on your head, but at least they won’t ruin your sneaks.

When I first peeped the Excubo Jacket made especially for sleeping on the bus or subway by industrial designer Matthew Gale, I laughed. But then I remembered a million late nights watching people on the metro play the doze-off game with their hoodies pulled tight around their heads, arms crossed, desperately trying to defy gravity in an upright position in order to get some Z’s before their stops came up. Gale, apparently, was one of these people getting cricks in his neck, or at least he’s been a caring sympathizer; putting his design talent to use, he invented a jacket with a stiff-shell interior layer featuring a collar that becomes rigid with a few yanks here and there, forming a sort of cocoon the wearer can nestle inside. When not in use, the oversized collar is stylishly turned down, disguising its true function. But hold your horses — the jacket’s still in patent-pending status. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear otherwise.

Oh, the days of G.I. Joes and matching pajamas - they were sweet, weren’t they? And you would bring them back if you could find a pair of those same pajamas in your current size, wouldn’t you? Well, a Bearbrick is no G.I. Joe, and a hoody is no butt-flap PJ with built in socks, but the two of them together still create a matching set that will make you feel as cuddly as a basket of kittens. XLarge x Medicom x David Flores, who have produced Bearbricks before, will be throwing out a new collab’d bear on December 1st, and a similarly green tinted, bear-eared zip-up will become available the same time. The Bearbrick’s great, the hoody’s great; together, they’re more fun than a Power Rangers suit. Support childhood regression here.

It’s a shoe-in; the gang over at Keep Company are having a massive 60% off sale starting Friday through Sunday of selected shoe styles on their site (and if you live in L.A., the sale’s Friday in the store). Your gal pals probably already have the inside track on them because they were originally incepted as a brand for girls only, but their kicks have since gotten so hot they’re now offering dude’s sizes in various models. Keep uses unusual, beautiful prints, colorways and fabric like plaid, herringbone and even woven Mayan fabric to give their sneakers and slip-ons a classic feel and style. Here’s your chance to cop their gorgeous styles on the cheap.

Since launching their flagship store here in NYC — their only US outlet, according to their site — Uniqlo has taken the US market by storm. Their simple clothes and funky Japanese design sensibilities have completely ingrained themselves in our psyche. Take a peek at their website and see for yourself if you need further convincing on the Uniqlo experience.
Case in point is their new grid playground. It allows users from around the world to interact on the same grid of Uniqlo logos, creating a mosaic similar to those used on store shopping bags and in the original brand campaign the predated the store launch. Every time someone around the world move a piece on the grid, the change is accompanied by a sound effect. The cacophony of sounds makes you realize just how many people are playing on the grid at once; go have fun and see for yourself.
