Word just landed that Bearbrick is doing a collab with Fossil — which is, well, interesting — but word also just landed that a more exciting example of art toy teamwork has recently hit the shelves. The Japanese version of Daft Punk’s latest album, ALIVE, is selling on Sold Out as an exclusive collette & Sold Out box set. Accompanied by two Daft Punk-y Bearbricks (that are not in their underwear or covered in sharpie, but do represent Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem Christo), the set might just represent the best holiday present for the music/toy junkie in your life ever. You can grab one for just under $73 here, but be sure to jump on it fast - the set was produced in a limited run of 3000, and somehow I get the feeling that Daft Punk has a few more fans than that.

The very awesome Outlaw Print Company, whose specialty is tees, has hooked up with R.E.Load Baggage to present a hot bike frame pad that will not only protect your two-wheeler’s top tube from wear and tear when you’re leaning it up against all kinds of natural and manmade elements, but also your shoulder bones when you’re lugging your bike over obstacles like fences and concrete barriers (and not to mention, ahem, other sensitive body parts — we all know which kind — that might find ways to rendezvous with the frame in other occasions). Each pad is hand-screened in an ’80s-style that will bring the spirit of your kiddie BMX bike back. Plus, the dudes have thoughtfully made the black ink reflective. Only 20 of these are available, so do it.

Katrin Sonnleitner plays with objects, spaces, and existing ideas in order to find unexpected interpretations of the familiar. Based in Germany, Katrin’s concepts pull from ordinary and universal entities, deconstruct past notions, and finally deliver something new - something like The Puzzleperser, a rug-slash-puzzle made from recyclable synthetic and natural rubber and synthetic fibers. The Puzzleperser (shown) looks like a Persian rug when assembled, but requires the work and interpretation of the builder for it to function as such. Other objects by Katrin that similarly behave include the Immobel, a collapsible table that offers strange storage options, and the po*od, a translucent modular paravent that allows the user to play with both light and space. Katrin is available for space, project, and object development, so if complex concepts are your deconstructed cup of plant life, head here for the full run down.

Not many of us are open-minded enough to even wonder if NFL kicker Morten Andersen could be living a double life as a successful artist in Denmark - but it was still sweet of Oliver to point out the clear distinction between the two men. It was also pretty sweet of him to link his comment to a site of his own choosing — and while we’re not sure if he works there, wishes he worked there, or just made up some random site and it just happened to take us somewhere awesome, we need to send Oliver a “Thank ya!” for pointing us in the direction of Go Media, an Ohio design art and design studio that’s been turning out some incredible work for clients like Pepsi, Virgin and Funkrush. While they have the kind of portfolio I feel a little stupid blathering over (I get the vibe that they’re already a big deal and are in no need of my internet high five-ing) I had to mention them because they have one huge strong point that other design firms sometimes struggle with: apparel design. The shirts that they’ve been designing for clients like Jedediah, Bridge and Tunnel, and GRN Apple Tree are so good that they’re actually putting apparel brands to shame. Here’s to the team at Go Media (which, hopefully, includes Oliver) for getting it done.

Still looking for that perfect gift for the guy who has everything — and I do mean everything? Well, if he’s a scotch or whiskey drinker, here’s the answers. As most fine whiskey fanatics will tell you, it’s almost sacrilegious to water down your scotch with “regular” ice cubes. In fact, so much so that companies are storming the market with products that solve just this…problem.
The first I noticed was IceRocks. IceRocks are premium “spring water ice cubes”. These guys are willing to go so far as to let you water down your fine whiskey, but only with Evian-style ice. Anything less would be unconscionable.
The next two solutions to watered down whiskey are a bit less forgiving in their approach: fine whiskey should NOT be watered down. So in the interest of keeping your spirits strong (bad pun, sorry), have a look at the Ice Stones from Teroforma, a brand I’ve been working with lately, and a similar solution from Sippin’ on the Rocks, making an appearance on Thrillist today. Both offer a more natural and reusable solution to this quandary: rocks. Put rocks in your freezer and then in your drink, and they do the job of ice without diluting your whiskey.
And if your man who has everything doesn’t have fine whiskey, maybe you should add that to the list as well. Anyone care to recommend a favorite?
