When I saw a video of Kaki King playing a private show with Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, I had mixed feelings. On one hand, I was glad that one of my favorite musicians was getting the admiration she deserved. On the other hand, my little secret was out. Having been nominated for a Golden Globe for her contribution to the Into the Wild soundtrack with Eddie Vedder, Kaki has moved on to collaborations with Teagan and Sara and the Foo Fighters. Her latest effort, Dreaming of Revenge, demonstrates unmistakable maturity in her musics style. The signature calming Kaki sound is still present but there are additional layers of complexity, including deeper lyrics and layered guitar work “under very simple, beautiful melodies.” The album drops March 11. Run out and buy it and see her on tour, starting with South by Southwest the very next day.

Have you ever imagined your cup of afternoon tea as a hot steaming sea of soothing flavor? Well, if you have, have you ever stopped to think that instead of adding some sugar or milk to make that body of water complete, what it really needs is a seafaring ship? Okay, maybe you haven't, but then again your name isn't Elisabeth Soos (or is it?). The Austria-based industrial designer has come up with the tpod, a novel idea that turns that tag at the top of your teabag into a beverage boat that sails around your tea sea until it's ready to drink. However, we have to warn you: when you go to take out that ship you might want to make sure there are no sharks lurking about.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and since your relationship dodged quite a bullet last year when you waited until the last minute so the sweet shop only had leftover Hannukah gelt, it would probably be a good idea to plan ahead this time around. In 2007 Arab-American documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim was awarded a TED Idea Prize for her wish to "bring the world together for one day a year through the power of film."
The realization of her dream will happen on May 10, 2008 as Pangea Day takes over the world. Professional and amateur filmmakers are needed to send in their own short films — the only criteria being that they provoke thought, inspire others, and share pieces of their experiences with people who will never meet them. Official live viewings will be hosted in Brazil, Egypt, India, the UK, Israel, the Palestinian Territory, Rwanda and the US; a four-hour live video-conference will show a stretch of films, speakers and music to unify people through the power of common emotion. If you're not in the host cities, then the program will also be broadcast live on TV, online, and on mobile devices or you can take part in hundreds of public viewings being organized in cities everywhere. Even better, you can get involved yourself and host a viewing of your own.
The hope is that millions of people around the world will gather outdoors, at theatres, and with their families to connect with the entire globe. The site explains it perfectly: "Movies alone can't change the world. But the people who watch them can". The February 15th deadline is almost here. Get inspired by the trailer and take part here.

Over the last twenty years, either a Bush or Clinton has held sway over the oval office, ruling with an iron fist. While Billary (why has this name not caught on yet, it's better than Bennifer or Brangelina?) vie to extend that streak to an astounding twenty-four years, there are plenty of people who would like that to see that reign end. One of those people is acclaimed poster artist and illustrator, Shepard Fairey. Fairey's preferred agent of change is none other than Illinois Senator Barack Obama. It's his and many others belief that Obama represents a renewed hope and progress for a faltering nation. Inspired by his candidate of choice, Fairey has created two breathtaking new posters trumpeting both the "HOPE” and "PROGRESS” that come along with the candidate running on a platform of change. Fairey is selling screen prints of these two creations to raise money for a large statewide poster campaign. The prints are available starting tomorrow, so if you support Obama or just superb artwork, why not pick up a poster for yourself? After all, Super Tuesday is just around the corner.
