My pal Jeff Staple is becoming a legend, if he isn’t one already. He’s an innovator, and really should need no introduction. He’s been shaking up the sneaker world with global collaborations, innovations and sick design for a long time. His legendary Nike Pigeon Dunks are still floating around eBay with $3000 price tags years later– and they caused riots around the world. He just (proudly) announced his collaboration with New Balance, the Pigeon 575 shown here– and we’re very excited for him. This time around there are 650 available globally. Interested in what else he has been up to and what the Pigeon means (other than crap on your sidewalk)? His Interview with Sneaker Freaker is fantastic, check it out.

He says “remember it’s only a sneaker.” We say keep calm and carry on. More pictures after the jump.

Congratulations to Austin, Kathryn and Lisa.

Austin got there first with the correct guess of a mimobot (honestly, who travels without one of these?). Our runners-up also guessed that Josh carries around a charger (of the Blackberry variety — some of you said Blackberry, but everyone knows the actual device surgically attached to his palm) and a bottle of OTC pills (Melatonin for the jet lag). Again, thanks for playing and try again next week. There are some huge prizes coming up.

Judging by its $300 million plus take at the box office, you’ve probably already seen The Dark Knight. Remember that part where Batman tries to track down the Joker with that crazy cell phone contraption? Well, if you thought Wayne Industries’ secret project was shockingly original you’d be sorely mistaken. It looks to be derived from Listening Post, an art installation created by Mark Hansen and Ben Rubin of Ear Studio. The exhibit featured pieces of text gathered from public forums, bulletin board, as well as thousands of unrestricted Internet chat rooms in real time, which are then spoken by a voice synthesizer and plastered across a grid of over 200 tiny electronic displays. The installation had been shown around the country in various locations from 2002 to 2007 — plenty of time for Christopher Nolan to rip it off … and frankly we don’t blame him.

Today is the first day of August, but that doesn’t mean we can’t blog about snow globes, right? These aren’t just any snow globes — they’re more like a really cool art project by Spanish-American couple Walter Martin and Palmoa Munoz. They feel a bit like a David Lynch film about a never-ending world of winter, depicting emotional and sometimes fantastic scenes of creatures and humans interacting with the climate. Some of their globes are up for viewing at the George Adam’s Gallery in New York as a part of the “COOL” exhibition, and they’ve also just given an interview to Ping Magazine. Enjoy the rest of your summer and have a look at their globes to be reminded of the grime winter that awaits us.

Break out your 3D glasses. Now put them away. Hulger has found a way to give its visitors that sought after extra dimension using only a piece of black cardboard and a really dumb looking way of sitting at your computer. It does work though. The retro-phone purveyor has a couple of three dimensionalized flicks up on their site. So, scurry to your craft nook and grab the necessary tools for a mildly surprising treat.

If the word “whoa” hasn’t yet worked its way into your vocabulary it’s about to, thanks to the eye-popping, fully-customizable skateboards created by Corbusboards. In the past “fully customizable” meant merely blanketing your board in decals and graffiti, but Corbus eschews the traditional yet limited wooden board base in favor of a durable aluminum one, welding it to match some absolutely dope designs. The result is a few functionally ferocious decks that are ideal whether you’re bombing or grinding.
