You’ve most likely seen writer Steve Dildarian’s work before. That is, if you’ve watched major league sports events in the past 10 years or any television in general. Dildarian worked as a copywriter for world-renowned San Francisco advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, where he created a series of spots about a certain set of amphibians for a beer company. After giving Budweiser lizards and an eager donkey something to talk about, he worked with girlfriend Leynete Cariapa to create the short film Angry Unpaid Hooker, a prelude to the new animated series The Life & Times of Tim set to debut on HBO on September 28.

Magazines may soon be a thing of the past thanks to the Internet, but a website can’t occupying space on your coffee table. Instead of tossing your perodical 1.0’s any old place, we think it would be much easier to slip them neatly inside the Pictura Suspended Magazine Rack. This wall mounted stainless steel digest depository, designed by Karl Karlsson, fits up to 12 mags and contains a window that allows you to see the front cover of your latest issue of Guns & Ammo or Sleeping Illustrated, more or less framing it as a work of art, just as the graphic designer who put in all that hard work intended.

Only months after the tagging fiasco at a graduation show at the Sao Paulo private art university Belas Artes, a different [UPDATE: APPARENTLY ORGANIZED BY THE SAME GUY AS THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT] gang of 30 pixadores took matters into their own hands and launched an attack on Choque Cultural, the city’s premier street art gallery. Last Saturday the group descended into the gallery and tagged up the walls, paintings (which thankfully were protected inside glass frames, including Gerald Laing’s) and ceilings of the small space in their unique calligraphy in a protest move against what they see as Choque Cultural’s involvement in helping to commercialize an art form — street art — that they believe should stay on the street. As we all know, it’s not a new debate and for the gallery even bad press is good press. Check out the Flickr account from one of the pixadores to see photos of the manifestation.

Come November 4th the political landscape will change. While it’s up to “we the people” to decide whether or not the direction of that change leans towards Obama or McCain, the two candidates have long since begun their quest to bring their particular brands of “hope” to the world. The Republican and Democrat nominees have repeatedly employed targeted language to sway the opinions of their constituents. Keeping track of those words is a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Thanks to the statistically minded beings at Speechwars, you can see exactly what your candidate is talking about every time he steps up to the podium. The site’s speech graphs and word clouds, while not telling you exactly where each candidate stands on the issues, allows you to see if McCain is truly avoiding the economy or if Obama is way too hung up on this change thing. It’s certainly is an interesting study on the cunning use of political linguistics and worth checking out.

Now that we’ve mixed 1 part design into the bowl, we’re going to move onto the second ingredient — let’s add one part ambiance. Just the second ingredient in the four-ingredient recipe, it was the most eye-opening component of my Veuve Clicquot experience last week. My choosing of “ambiance” as a vital ingredient in the overall recipe that is the Veuve Clicquot brand was predicated on the idea that a luxury Champagne brand must act the part — it must not conduct business in a vacuum. The incredible flavors that emerge from the bottle don’t appear out of thin air — they are created and caused by the process, by nature, by people. In this rather photo-heavy post, I hope I can at least skim the surface of the ambiance within and surrounding the Veuve Clicquot brand as I experienced it. After the jump are just some of the sights and circumstances that epitomize the yellow label.
