As of today, the results count for a search on “tee shirts” is 8,090,000. Make that search more specific — say, for “glow-in-the-dark tee shirts” — and the numbers narrow to 682,000. Make it really specific — “neon pterodactyl Christmas tee shirt” — and it shrinks to around 200. In other words, if you have five days to find the perfect tee, then don’t worry, you’ll find it.
Early this month, a site launched that hopes to consolidate, organize and energize that process, and with the team behind it, there’s a good chance that it will.
Everyone came up with some great, awful examples of cell phone product placement, but only Mia came up with one that we could have never thought of. In this Korean series, Anycall (TV, movie … we’re not quite sure what it is to be honest episodic commercial), some J-Pop boys and screaming girls get stuck in an elevator — but not to worry, they have a mobile!
Thanks again readers. More prizes next week.
[ED NOTE: So, due to a gracious Mia and a few readers who filled us in on what exactly Anycall is, the only fair thing to do is give the prize to the runner up, Chuck, who reminded us that before Instinct, there was the 90 minute Motorola commercial, Cellular.]
We all drink bottled water. We don’t want to, we know that it’s bad for the environment, we understand that Poland Springs is neither from Poland nor from springs — but when it’s hot out and we’re running to the train we can’t help ourselves. Sorry. Our liberal guilt is consuming us, and yet we realize that our long national bottled water nightmare isn’t going to be rectified overnight. So, wouldn’t it be better if you could at least buy a water with a smaller carbon footprint? Some may say it’s ludicrous to buy NYC tap water, but you plunk down a dollar at the convenience store when you could use a public water fountain or just cup your hands under the sink. Tapd NY makes no secret they put reverse osmosis treated tap water into a bottle and sell it. But they try to encourage the public to refill and reuse, meeting the bottle-buyers and eco-warriors half way. Hell, even the Hydrators would rather top off your bottle than see you buy another one.
Throwing out rubbish is not something you’d think to make more interesting, but Dominic Wilcox has come up with a project that will have you finding reasons to make that trip to the trash can. As part of the Vipp charity auction, the idea man has created a Xylophone Bin, which consists of a xylophone spiraling down the outside of an everyday dustbin with a lid. Hit the pedal to pop the lid, and when it closes you are treated to the inexplicably pleasant sound of an erratic descending scale courtesy of a metal ball released upon the lid’s shutting. Sound weird? It is.
To briefly recap our progress with the Veuve Clicquot recipe this week, we added one part design on Tuesday, one part ambiance on Wednesday, and one part expertise on Thursday. Today, there’s one last ingredient to add, and we’re going to be pouring a little bit more of this one into the mix than usual. The reason the recipe calls for two parts family is that the Veuve Clicquot family is the glue that holds the rest of the dish together.
The strength of the VC family not only serves to keep the internal workings of the brand humming along, but it’s also a strong, effective, and natural customer draw — I think it’s the authenticity people perceive when they feel a strong sense of family associated with a brand. It was certainly what made me feel relaxed, welcomed, and inspired during my days in France — a refreshing, tradition-bound experience amongst the hoards of Johnny-come-lately brands out there these days.
And as a special bonus today, I’ve put together this photo/video montage of my Veuve Clicquot experience. In all honesty, it was inspired by my new, adopted family. I hope you all enjoy watching. (I recommend viewing the montage in high quality on youtube )
And what “family” post would be complete with out a few family photos? You’ll find several after the jump…

In your heyday, you were certainly a pro at Playstation. You consistently took on Gran Turismo at the highest setting. And while It may be some time since you last finished off a fellow fighter in Mortal Kombat, there’s no doubt you’re a four star general in the gamers army, and we think it’s about time you received a commendation for your valor. The folks at Supermandolini heartily agree, which is why they’re honoring your brave service with their Console Wars Veteran II pin series. New technology can often be scary. The liberal use of space age polymers and fancy LCD’s can frighten consumers into thinking they may have accidentally slipped into the future with no way back to the world they know and love. One way to remedy that is to camouflage innovation in a classic package. Hulger’s new VoIP PAPPA*PHONE effectively harnesses a new technology, while furnishing it in the eloquent and stylish package of American walnut wood and brass. Each of the phones from Furni, the Montreal based maker, is cut from one piece of wood, while the finer details are laser etched on. This first ever wooden Skype phone is compatible via USB with both Mac and PC incarnations of the Internet phone program, as well as other VoIP programs, allowing you to converse in style no matter what kind of computer you use.
