It takes a lot for a t-shirt line to really impress me, but when I came across LA based Materialust, my hand immediately reached for my wallet. Materialust is really a globe trotting brand and I mean it in every sense. Each design is based on a different place across the globe: Paris and two versions of Tijuana shown above. Now don’t jump on me just yet, what makes this t-shirt line stand out from the rest is the great feel and fit of the tee itself. When I initially picked up the shirt I had to check the sign on the door and make sure I didn’t accidentally walk into a thrift store. Apparently, I am not the only one catching wind of this new brand because the line is available at a handful of top notch boutiques. We’ve seen many great t-shirt lines come and go, but this one looks like they are here to stay.

I’m very surprised this line of shirts “impressed you”. Most of them look like chinzy shirts you would get at a gimmick shop in the country of choice. They are trying to cultural but come off looking like Crazy Shirts. Come on now; CCCP with the hammer and sickle? Spain with a bull on it? How much more generic does it get? Impressed you? The owner of this company must be a personal friend.

Ok, first can we decipher your comment before I defend my post. What is a “chinzy shit”? You capatilized “Crazy Shirt”, is this a brand or company? “They are trying to cultural” what does that mean?

I pick my t-shirt lines on three different catagories: 1) Originality of the designs, 2) quality of the t-shirts, 3) what stores decide to carry the line says a lot about it. I am sorry this post isn’t for a faux vintage tshirt from American Eagle or if I decided not to write about a 100 dollar reproduction concert t-shirts. But I look for t-shirt lines that I feel will appeal to a braoder scale. Yes I will admit that the designer of these t-shirts is no Futura or the next Picasso, but the treatment and quality of the blanks is enough to justify the post on its own.

If you would like to post t-shirt lines that you feel deserve recognition over this line, please feel free to post them and I will be more then happy to look into them.

Is it just me or are these shirts desgined strictly for people with either 80″ chests or 250lb beer guts? No way in hell they’d fit my 155lb frame…but then again, I guess we are a fast food nation nowadays.

A simple cut and past of the capitalized words “Crazy Shirts” into a search engine would answer your first question.

I like most stuff on this site but these shirts just really rub me the wrong way. I don’t care if the shirt feels 2nd to nothing, the graphics are so generic. And in terms of caring about what store carries the line, give me a break! Shoot me in the head the day I choose my clothes based on what store is selling them. I would think you like what you like; not what some store is going to make you like because, oh, they just happen to sell it.

Quality may be great but the graphics gotta go. I’ll try and find some nice shirt sites for you. In the mean time go check out Crazy Shirts and you’ll see what I mean.

Oh yeah, the definition of cultural: of or relating to the arts and manners that a group favors

Have you looked at the shirts you are raving about? Tijuana with Mexican hat. Egypt with a Cairo beetle. Japanese writing with the Tokyo Sun motif. Hawaii with hula dancers? These shirts are so generic. But oh, they must be expensive and sold in hip stores so I guess I like them now?!

Relax Parker. Learn to take criticism. I’m sure 99% of the population would guess these came from a t-shirt stand in a tourist town but that 1% is who they are aiming for right? I happen to think they are really bad. Next! ; )

Hi folks. Thanks for all the comments… The great thing about the internet is it’s free, and we don’t ask you to read this site. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. We don’t try to please anyone but ourselves– personally, I like the hokey-ness of the “cultural” graphics and the quality looks very good. We’re not a t-shirt blog, but thanks for reading :)

Right on Josh. This site is a “favorite” of mine; read it every day. For the most part I like everything and never have commented before. For some reason these shirts really got to me. Must have been having a bad day. Keep up the good work.
