While there’s no doubt that Mute Math was built for a major record label (in this case it’s major “Indie” label Teleprompt/ Warner Bros.), I’m still excited to hear them play live when they come to Boulder’s own Fox Theater on April 16th. Not going to lie– it wasn’t until I got a robustly supportive email from a reader telling me that their show is a “complete spectacle…blew away every other live act I’ve ever seen” did I decide that I wanted to see them live (and that reader best realize that I’m holding him personally responsible for my having a good time at this show). MuteMath hails from New Orleans, and from the look of this video, for their song ‘Typical,’ their show should be fun indeed. Tell me if I’m experiencing audio hallucinations, but the lead singer’s voice at times reminds me of Peter Gabriel, and at other times Sting. You can download their new album from iTunes or stream 4 tracks on their Myspace page.

I heard that Mute Math’s show was “life changing.” So I saw them this past week when they were in Cincinnati. It was ‘ok.’ The crowd the band attracted was the worst ive ever seen. No one liked to get down and they just stood there perfectly still like manikins. Hopefully your crowd isn’t lame.

We saw them in Chicago and Cleveland, and the experience was life changing, the crowds were chanting for encores like I’ve never heard before, could be that Cincinatti’s crowd just happened to be lame, as seen in this video clip from Chicago and Cleveland, I don’t know how anyone could say the are just “ok”…

used to work with these guys at CAA. show is ridiculous… not many bands can hang with them live. maybe only My Morning Jacket in a totally different way. this is definitely one to see at the Fox. i also would bet the boulder scene will embrace the show… people who like STS9 and other jam-type indie eclectic bands would probably embrace the groove they bring. i’ll be taking some pix!
