Over the last twenty years, either a Bush or Clinton has held sway over the oval office, ruling with an iron fist. While Billary (why has this name not caught on yet, it’s better than Bennifer or Brangelina?) vie to extend that streak to an astounding twenty-four years, there are plenty of people who would like that to see that reign end. One of those people is acclaimed poster artist and illustrator, Shepard Fairey. Fairey’s preferred agent of change is none other than Illinois Senator Barack Obama. It’s his and many others belief that Obama represents a renewed hope and progress for a faltering nation. Inspired by his candidate of choice, Fairey has created two breathtaking new posters trumpeting both the “HOPE” and “PROGRESS” that come along with the candidate running on a platform of change. Fairey is selling screen prints of these two creations to raise money for a large statewide poster campaign. The prints are available starting tomorrow, so if you support Obama or just superb artwork, why not pick up a poster for yourself? After all, Super Tuesday is just around the corner.

I’d be thrilled with Barack Obama as president. But to lump Bill Clinton in with the Bush regime doesn’t seem to make much sense. Back then, people likened Clinton to J.F.K.; he was also called the hope. And he fulfilled that hope by bringing about enormous positive change and repairs during his presidency. Most importantly, he somehow repaired a national budget crisis brought on by Reagan’s through-the-roof military spending. With Clinton in the white house, we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. Hillary Clinton was the first woman in the white house who, much to the frustration of Republicans, had an active role in the white house. Many respected her for her accomplishments and intelligence.

I personally haven’t chosen between the candidates. But I don’t buy the “hope” arguement… just because Senator Obama preaches it. It’s marketing. They’re both the hope. And maybe the “Billary” word hasn’t caught on because it belittles everything the Clintons have accomplished.

Thank you RM for being someone who really likes Obama, but doesn’t have to demonize either one or both of the clintons. that is refreshing, many obama supporters seem to have gone off the deep end.
